We had a funny gig yesterday, well not funny as the last 15 mins did become a little awkward. So I have done balloons at this venue 3 or 4 times before and all gone OK. We get the odd person trying to jump the queue which is difficult to keep 100% check on when you are ballooning and entertaining. So when I get to the gig I’m informed that they are going to hand out raffle tickets……… I’m thinking how many… eek. So I always arrive early for a gig to go and sit and have a coffee before I start. So thinking I have 2 hours so best to give out 30 tickets and then see time wise if I can do any more. All goes great and we are all having a laugh, well I am, hopefully others are as well. We get to 30 mins before my finish time and I have 8/9 people with tickets so go over and say can you please not give any more tickets out as we have enough to take us to the finish time at four. Then 15 mins before the finish time I see a lot of people have started forming at the back of the queue so mention, sorry it’s ticket only and we closed the line at 3.30. Where upon one lady held up 15 tickets and said they were just given these and would be getting a balloon………….. You can imagine what happened, I did explain we closed the queue and I was leaving at four and I still have enough people to take me to the time and sorry but the people in charge of the tickets should not have given any more out. The last 10/15 mins were a little strained to say the least, anyway keep smiling and remembering all the ones we had a laugh with and the smiles on faces as we passed over the chosen balloons. I was concerned when I got to the gig about someone using the ticket system and them handing out the tickets, I too use the ticket system but I give them out and take charge of the situation. No matter how many years we have been gigging there is always something new that happens.
A few last minute gigs are coming in for Christmas which is nice, both ballooning and magic shows.
I think weekends are nearly full now so that’s a bonus with a few mid week as well.
